Summer 2009 - Third Sunday
This
year we did a bit of an experiment without too many people knowing we
were trying something
new. This past year on Third Sundays we had extra music
and a bit more technology. I attended a
workshop last year about a United Church out west that holds ‘Third
Sundays’, and I really liked the idea.
They coordinate the 9 services through the year for a theme that
continues and focuses on a specific topic for
the year. They ensure that the kids program is lined up with that and
invite people to participate. Part of our
Community Contact Program for the upcoming year will be around these
weeks. The marketing idea is that if
you think coming to church every week is too much (which many young
families do), but, you are still thinking
or wondering about this whole faith question ‘thing’ then join us on the
3rd Sunday of the month to check us
out. This also gives folks in the congregation a chance to talk to
others and instead of a very vague or general
invitation, you can say, check us out on any 3rd Sunday, they
are designed for new folks to be our guests at
worship. At this point, I am thinking about 9 parables to work through
over the course of the year… topics
may include… searching; parenting; connecting; investing; reinventing;
deserving; building; praying and sharing.
At the worship committee meeting they gave their full support to this
happening in worship and gave
some direction on how the language of the advertising needs to be
worded.
Please keep in mind that this whole marketing opportunity is aimed at
folks not already here. You
may not take it as permission to only come once a month!

Thank You!!
1000th Tape
Sunday May 31st marked a milestone in that we have recorded in the
cassette log 1000 services of
worship (although they were at it a bit before that...) Nick Stan has
worked for over 25 years on our
sound system, and we take time today to give thanks for his ministry.
With the new mixer, he is retiring,
so we celebrate and give thanks for his gifts to us. Nick has
supported this ministry faithfully for so
many years. Well done!
This hasn't been the work of just one though, we recognize Raj Govind,
Sandra Martin, David
Sanders,Gerry Gilroy and Jeanne McMulkin who have all worked on sound
over the years!
Serenata Singers
Thank
you to those in the congregation who continue to attend the
Serenata Singers’ annual spring
concerts.
Your interest and support is greatly appreciated by the choir and in
particular Bev Ayles, Elizabeth
Scarlett and
Audrey
McLeod. It has been reported that a good time was had by
all.
